Why organic?

We believe that organic growing is the only sustainable way of feeding ourselves in the future, by working in harmony with nature and cherishing the condition of our soil. We can use crop rotations, fallow periods, green manures, green waste (processed domestic woody waste) and animal manures to keep our soils healthy.

We are certified by the Soil Association which involves regular inspections and considerable auditing to meet the standards which are always being improved. Organic growers do not use artificial fertilisers, pesticides or GM seeds. We are always thinking for the future, which means: minimal waste, minimal packaging and making our own compost.

As a small market garden, we have plenty of hedgerows around our fields and lots of flowers to encourage natural predators such as hoverflies and lacewings. In winter we can allow chickens access to our plots to scratch about and eat bugs and slugs.

Local Food

Buying local food supports your local economy as well as ensuring you get fresh and nutritious fare.

Food grown at the kitchen garden mostly finds its way into our boxes but some is available at Wallingford Farmers market and also occasionally sold to the Local Producers market in Wallingford.
